Book Camp – June 2025:
Children Read, Create, and Perform for the Planet

In collaboration with the Kolkata Centre for Creativity
Dates: June 5–7, 2025 | Time: 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM | Participants: Classes 5–7

This World Environment Day, Saltlakeeduchange Foundation collaborated with Kolkata Centre for Creativity to host a 3-day immersive Book Camp blending reading, art, and theatrical performance. Centered around a Ruskin Bond short story, the camp encouraged students to explore themes of nature, empathy, and resilience through collaborative poetry, prop-making, and performance.

From story reading and ballad writing to costume design and stage rehearsals, every step was child-led and creativity-driven. The final day featured a heartwarming performance for parents and peers, showcasing the children’s original interpretations.

The camp fostered joy, confidence, collaboration, and expression—making it a memorable experience for both children and their families.

Participant’s Feedback

Myra, grade 6th, homeschooling: “I never laughed so much in my entire life as I did during the making of this play, and the best part was the rehearsals. I can’t believe we put up an entire production in only 3 days!"

Satwakee, grade 7, St. Teresa’s Secondary School: “I didn’t think I would fit in so well, and I loved how the teachers paid attention to all of us individually and engaged us so well. They gave chance to do everything from script to props as well as the costumes all by ourselves. I had a lot of fun!"

Parents’ Feedback

Nandini: "I was amazed to see my child take initiative and speak on stage. The environment was so encouraging and engaging. Would love to participate in the future events!"

Ruchika: "The blend of reading and art was refreshing. I could see how deeply the story touched them, and they took it upon themselves to create something together! All their faces are happy."

Summer Book Camp: Reimagining the Ramayana

Dates: June 23–25, 2025
In Collaboration With Hatekhori

This 3-day summer Book Camp brought together children aged 10–15 to explore the Ramayana through art, poetry, and music. Participants engaged with diverse adaptations of the epic across regions and time, challenged popular narratives, and created their own interpretations. Highlights included a live Potochitro performance by artist Siraj Chitrakar, making natural paints, painting scenes from the Ramayana, reading Lakshmaner Shaktishel by Sukumar Ray, writing group poems, and composing folk tunes.

The camp ended with vibrant group presentations of musical storytelling using their own artwork. Children from across districts including Kalyani and Baharampur joined us, spending three joyful days learning, rehearsing, sharing meals, and picking jamruls straight from the trees!
